Learning How to Make Thai Papaya Salad (Som Tam)

Growing up there’s always one thing I look forward to in April, and that’s Cambodian and Thai New Year. Temples are filled with food stalls selling a variety of street food, and the one food I look forward to the most is Papaya Salad. I grew up with authentic Thai Papaya Salad after living near a Thai Temple for majority of my childhood. One thing that always surprises the elders is that my sister and I would order our papaya salad with everything in it, including the salted crab. This salad is sweet, sour, spicy, and savory, which is perfect for spring and summer. So to celebrate the upcoming New Year, I’ll be sharing my attempt in making a Thai Papaya Salad – the nontraditional way. Please note this is not a recipe post, since I’m still learning how to make this dish. It’s not perfect, but hey, practice makes perfect.

What I Ate in a Week | Food Diary

This year, I’m trying to eat and cook more healthy meals without giving up bad food completely (e.g. my ramen and fried chicken). That’s why I’m excited about writing a food diary to log what I have been eating. For the week of March 5-11, I didn’t really do a good job of taking photos of my food, so here are some of my lunches and dinner throughout the week.

Monday

Lunch: Wingstop – Mild, Garlic Parmesan, and Louisiana Rub boneless wings with a side of veggie sticks (carrots & celery), and seasoned fries well-done.

Casual Friday Work Outfit + Happy Lunar New Year

Happy Lunar New Year and happy Friday! I wish everyone a wonderful new year filled with luck, happiness, good health, and prosperity.

I haven’t done an outfit post in forever, so today, I am sharing a casual outfit that I wore to work. I wore leggings and an over-sized sweater, which is a great simple outfit for transitioning into spring. Southern California is already in 70-77° weather, but if you live in a cooler climate, I would throw on a jacket or scarf to stay extra warm. This beige sweater has diamond patterns in front with hints of white and pink which makes the look a bit more feminine. For shoes, I wore patent leather loafers with tassel detail for a dressy look.

Easy Vegetable Soup Recipe

All I did last month was ate soup and watched anime because I caught the flu. I recovered, but in less than two weeks I caught a cold (unbelievable). After being sick for almost all of January, I’m happy to say that I’m finally better! So, in this post I’m sharing a very easy vegetable soup recipe that is healthy and delicious. What I like about this recipe is that you can customize it with whatever vegetables or soup broth you like. I like to stick with the basics – carrots, celery, onions, and tomatoes. It was my first time attempting a soup like this and it came out great!

The amount of vegetables you use is up to you. I like to add a lot. Continue reading “Easy Vegetable Soup Recipe”

Disney’s Classic Afternoon Tea – Anaheim, CA

I finally recovered from the flu! For some reason I always get sick after my birthday week. Anyways, my birthday is on the first week of January (Capricorn babies), and my sister, my friend (whose birthday is also on the first week), and I decided to celebrate with afternoon tea. This is our second time coming here, so we agreed to keep it as our annual birthday tradition.

Little Tokyo, Los Angeles CA: Ramen + Matcha Soft Serve Ice Cream

Happy Holidays! On Christmas Eve, I headed to Little Tokyo in Downtown Los Angeles for ramen and ice cream while catching up with some high school friends. We went to Ramen Maruya located in the Japanese Village. This is one of my favorite restaurants for ramen, and there is never a long wait around noon. I ordered their spicy tonkotsu ramen. Toppings includes thinly sliced pork charshu, boiled egg, bean sprouts, nori, green onions, and spicy sauce.

A Rilakkuma Christmas

At work last week, we had our company’s Christmas Party, and I wore my Rilakkuma Christmas sweater. We had a “Wear your Best Festive Wear” competition in which I was close to winning.

I bought this sweater two years ago from Japan LA. It’s a bit oversized because I bought it in the size medium. It’s very comfortable and different from normal Christmas sweaters.

I wore it with my grey mini skirt from Uniqlo, and beige booties from Sole Society. To really get into the spirit of the holidays, I found this wine color beret with reindeer ears on Amazon. It’s a kid size beret, but it fits perfectly.
